In the Beginning

As of May 8, I had the tank, seat, rear tire and fender and carbs removed.

Rear tire will need to be replaced. There was a bit of surface rust inside the brake drum.

Carbs finally out. I've never cleaned carbs before. This will be my first attempt.

Sprocket cleaned up well. I'll probably get a new front and rear sprocket along with a new chain.

After removing the carbs, you'd think you could easily pull out the starter! Found out this item above the starter is called an "automatic chain tensioner" for the camshaft chain. It has to be removed in a specific way (according to my Haynes Manual). I'll get to that in the next few days.

Thought about removing the airbox completely, but it is a hassle getting it out of the frame. I'll probably keep this bike stock to keep things simple, so I'll leave it alone.

Back of the bike as it stands today.
